ROUND 1: Group Discussion (GD)
The Group Discussion is designed to evaluate a candidate’s interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, logical reasoning, and ability to function as part of a team under time constraints.
- Structure & Batching: The total pool of 24 students will be divided equally into three specific cohorts to maintain order and ensure equal speaking time. The GD will be conducted as follows:
- GroupA: 8 Students
- GroupB: 7 Students
- GroupC: 7 Students
- Assigned GDTopics: To test diverse analytical frameworks and business acumen, the following contemporary topics are assigned to each group:
o Group A Topic: “Digital payment or cash payment, which is better?”
o Relevance: Directly correlates with HDFC Bank’s core business of credit/debit cards, UPI, and digital banking transformation. Tests students on financial inclusion, technological infrastructure, and consumer behavior.
o Group B Topic: “Will Electric Vehicles take over petrol engines?”
o Relevance: Tests macro-economic understanding and emerging market trends. From a banking perspective, this relates to the future of auto-loans, investment in green tech, and risk assessment of traditional vs. new energy sectors.
o Group C Topic: “Online retail systems vs traditional retail systems.”
o Relevance: Evaluates understanding of supply chain dynamics, changing consumer purchasing patterns, and the future of POS (Point of Sale) merchant acquiring a major revenue stream for banks like HDFC.
- Evaluation Criteria: Clarity of thought, structured argumentation, ability to build on others’ points, assertiveness without aggression, and awareness of ground realities.
ROUND 2: Personal Interview (PI)
Candidates who successfully clear the Group Discussion round will advance to the Personal Interview. This round is the ultimate test of a candidate’s suitability for a specific role within HDFC Bank.
- Format: One-on-one interaction between the candidate and a panel consisting of an HR representative and a functional/departmental manager from HDFC Bank.
- Natureof the Interview: The PI is expected to be a mix of HR, Behavioral, and Domain-specific questions.
· Key Areas of Assessment:
- Resume Deep-Dive: Scrutiny of academic projects, internships (ashighlighted in the registration form), and extracurricular achievements.
- Domain Knowledge: Testing core MBA concepts based on the student’s specialization (e.g., Marketing principles, Financial ratios, HR metrics, or Operations management).
- Cross-Questioning on GD: Panelists may probe candidates further on the viewpoints they expressed in Round 1 to check for authenticity and depth of
- Situational & Behavioral Questions: “How would you handle an irate customer?”, “Sell me this pen,” or scenarios testing stress management, target orientation, and ethical dilemmas.
- Cultural Fit: Assessing adaptability, willingness to relocate (as captured inthe registration form), and long-term career alignment with HDFC Bank’s fast-paced work environment.
